Straight answers on fitting, wearing, and caring for the Sioen 22,5 x 14 cm NIJ IIIA side panel pair in Varjelus side armor bags, plus the export limit that matters before you order.

Quick answer

The Sioen 22,5 x 14 cm NIJ IIIA panel pair is made to drop into the side armor bags of the FDF M17-cut Varjelus plate carrier, so fit is a question of bag cut and panel orientation rather than universal sizing. Keep the panels in their bags, inspect them regularly, and confirm you can receive ballistic goods in Finland before ordering.

Where this panel pair fits and where it does not

These panels are cut for the side armor bags on the FDF M17 plate carrier pattern used by the Varjelus, and they are sold as a pair because side coverage is a two-sided job. That makes them a poor candidate for improvising into a different carrier's side pockets or a general-purpose pouch; the 22,5 x 14 cm size is a shape matched to a specific bag, not a universal insert.

If you run a carrier without side armor bags, this pair is not the starting point. Add the correct bags first, then match the panel to them.

Why the export restriction changes your planning

Ballistic material carries export restrictions, and this product cannot currently be shipped outside Finland. That is a hard limit, not a shipping-cost or lead-time issue, so an order to an address abroad will not proceed regardless of carrier choice.

Plan purchases around a Finnish delivery address, and treat cross-border travel with the panels as a separate question to check before you pack them.

Side panel fit and care questions

Will these panels fit my plate carrier?: They are cut for the side armor bags of the FDF M17 pattern Varjelus carrier. If your carrier uses a different side bag, measure the bag's internal pocket and compare it to the 22,5 x 14 cm panel before assuming a fit. The bag, not the carrier brand alone, is the part to verify.
How should the panels sit inside the side bags?: Insert each panel so it lies flat with no folds or bunched corners, close the bag fully, and check that the panel does not shift when you move. If a corner creases, reseat the panel rather than forcing the flap. A flat, fully seated panel is the goal; a wrinkled one needs reseating.
Can I trim the panels to fit a smaller bag?: No. Cutting a ballistic panel removes the protected edge and voids any assurance about its coverage. If the bag is too small, change the bag or the panel, not the panel's shape. Never modify the panel itself.
How do I care for soft armor panels day to day?: Keep panels in their bags, avoid prolonged soaking, and wipe off dirt with a damp cloth rather than machine washing. Store them flat and out of direct sun, and do not fold or compress them in a pack. Flat storage and no folding protect the panel between uses.
When should I inspect or replace the panels?: Check the panels after any hard impact and at regular intervals for creases, delamination, or a broken bag seam. If the panel or its bag shows damage you cannot explain, stop using it and replace it rather than continuing. Damage you cannot account for is a replacement signal.
Can I order these if I live outside Finland?: No. Export restrictions on ballistic material mean this product cannot currently be shipped outside Finland. Confirm a Finnish delivery address before checkout. Shipping eligibility is decided before the order, not after.
